The SmartOlive Grove project aims at improving the olive cultivation in the regional unit of Aetoloakarnania, which is currently the major producer of Kalamata olives (50% of the total production) in Greece.

This will be achieved through the development of a smart farming system that will contribute to the optimization of the use of irrigation water and crop protection products, reducing the production cost and improving the quality and competitiveness of olive products of the area at both national and international level.

More specifically, the application of the proposed holistic smart farming methodology and the services that will be developed in the context of the project will contribute to the reduction of the production costs through the reduction of inputs, and the improvement of the olive products through the optimal pest management and the reduction of the residuality of crop protection compounds. This will result in improved sustainability and increased competitiveness of the enterprises activated in the sector, providing them with a competitive advantage at an international level.

NEUROPUBLIC is the coordinator of the project, leading a consortium which consists of the Plant Production Laboratory of the University of Patras, the Agricultural Cooperative of Messolonghi-Nafpaktia “The Union” and the Agricultural Cooperative of Kainourgio.

The project is implemented in the context of the Action «Support of businesses for research projects» and is co-funded by the European Union and national funds through the Operational Programme WESTERN GREECE 2014-2020 (Project no: ΔΕΡ6-0021056)»
