NEUROPUBLIC was invited as one of the speakers in a Workshop on Smart Farming titled «Remote sensing-based farming: the sky is the limit», co-organized by DIGITALEUROPE, the European organization representing the digital technology industry, and GAIA EPICHEIREIN S.A. Brussels’ office.

The workshop took place on 11/1/2017 in Brussels and aimed to record the current status and challenges faced in the context of exploiting Remote Sensing technologies and standards in the E.U. agricultural sector, from technological (infrastructure), financial (business models and platforms), educational (skills) and academic (research) point of view.

NEUROPUBLIC was represented by its R&D Director Dr. Panagiotis Elias, who highlighted the need for collaboration among different stakeholders, including farmers, their cooperatives and companies which develop hi-tech services for processing and exploiting remote sensing data for improving agricultural production by applying innovating services in the field.

The panel was coordinated by John Higgins, Director General of DIGITALEUROPE, and apart from Dr. Elias, panel speakers included Tamme van der Wal, Data Scientist Spatial Knowledge Solutions of Wageningen University & Research (WUR), Nick Appleyard, Head of Integrated Applications and Downstream Services Department of the European Space Agency (ESA), Maciej Surowiec, EU Government Affairs Manager of Microsoft and Ole Peters, Head of Technology, Bayer Crop Science.

Participation was relatively high, including high-level representatives of major oganizations, including Pekka Pesonen, Secretary General of Copa-Cogeca, Υves Madre και Luc Vernet, co-founders of the European think tank Farm Europe, Rob Peters, Head of the Research and Innovation unit of European Commission’s Directorate-General for Agriculture and Rural Development, Ulrich Adam, Secretary General of CEMA, – the voice of the European Agricultural Machinery Industry, Geoff Sawyer, Secretary General of the European Association of Remote Sensing Companies EARSC, among others.
