Euro-VO Registry is project funded by the European Space Agency (ESA), with the purpose of developing and operation of a Virtual Observatory (VO) in Europe.

In short

The Virtual Observatory is a sum of distributed databases and software tools that, by utilizing the internet, create a scientific research environment in which astronomical research programmes will be conducted. Its main purpose is to allow to scientists and researchers transparent access, in a user friendly manner, to data distributed all over the world.

The large volume of data and the absence of existence of a central registry made the need for realizing the Euro-VO Registry imperative. The specific research project that was developed and is operating in the European Space Astronomy Centre, ESAC constitutes a complete search registry, available at European level, with information from all compatible European Virtual Observatories (European VO).

NEUROPUBLIC’s contribution and role in this project is following two axes. On the one hand it supports the smooth operation of the existing EURO-VO Registry, which means that it is responsible for monitoring the operation and maintenance system, supporting the users that input or search for data, and for supporting and for taking care of the interface with the rest of the Virtual Observatories all over the world.

On the other hand, under the auspices of the project, it will develop and ensure the smooth operation of a new version of the EURO-VO Registry that will be compliant to the new specification of the International Virtual Observatory Alliance, IVOA. The project is funded by the European Space Agency (ESA).
