ACROSS will co-design and develop a platform combining High Performance Computing, Big Data and Artificial Intelligence technologies, to support applications in the fields of aeronautics, climate/weather and energy.

In short

The project ACROSS: High Performance Computing Platform (HPC) for the Management of Big Data and Application of Machine Learning Methods Approaching the Computing Power of Exascale Level will co-design and develop a platform  μια πλατφόρμα combining High Performance Computing (HPC), Big Data (BD) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies, to support applications in the fields of aeronautics, climate/weather and energy.

For this, ACROSS will make use of next generation pre-exascale infrastructures, aiming to be ready for exascale systems and effective mechanisms for facilitating management of complex activities in the aforementioned three sectors. The energy efficiency will  be achieved through the massive use of specialized hardware accelerators, monitoring of  operation systems and application of intelligent mechanisms for process scheduling.

ACROSS will combine traditional HPC techniques with Artificial Intelligence (more specifically Machine Learning / Deep Learning) and Big Data analytical techniques for improving the outcomes of the pilot application (e.g. to improve the existing operation system for numerical weather forecasting and climate simulation, to develop an environment – user specified – for data processing, improvement and innovation of the existing system of  wind turbines design, acceleration of the design process etc.).

The performance of ML / DL techniques will be accelerated using specialized hardware devices. ACROSS will promote the cooperation with other european initiatives of the EC (such as BDVA and EPI) and future EuroHPC projects for the promotion of using computers at exascale level in thematic sectors and pilot application fields.
